ABOUT

Jennifer "Jen" Morgan is a Louisiana-based contemporary artist working in fiber whose richly textured portraiture and architectural works celebrate the people, culture, music, and distinctive sense of place that define New Orleans and the beyond.

After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from East Carolina University, Jen spent more than three decades as a graphic designer, art director, and marketing professional. Her background in visual communication continues to influence her artistic practice through thoughtful composition, expressive color, and a strong sense of storytelling.

Working almost entirely with natural fibers, Jen creates each piece using the combined techniques of wet felting, Nuno felting, and needle felting. Among a small number of artists to combine all three techniques within a single work, she creates painterly surfaces that challenge traditional expectations of what fiber can become as a contemporary fine art medium. Each artwork begins with a hand-felted foundation of natural fibers and silk fabric before thousands of additional fibers are meticulously needle felted into place, creating richly textured, painterly surfaces. Many works are further enhanced with embroidery, hand-spun art yarns, feathers, beads, and found objects, inviting viewers to look closer and discover that what appears to be paint is, in fact, fiber.

Inspired by New Orleans' vibrant cultural heritage, Jen's work celebrates musicians, Black Masking Indians, historic architecture, and the individuals whose stories have helped shape the region's identity. Through her work, she seeks not only to honor these subjects but also to elevate fiber as a contemporary fine art medium capable of conveying depth, emotion, and narrative.

Jen's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including Personal Structures – Confluences at the European Cultural Centre during the 2026 Venice Biennale. Her work has been recognized through numerous juried exhibitions and awards and has been featured in Fiber Art Now and Inside New Orleans magazine. She is represented by Orleans Gallery, and her work is held in private collections throughout the United States.

Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Jen has called the Greater New Orleans area home for more than 30 years. She currently resides in Mandeville, Louisiana, with her husband, Michael, their twin sons, and two dogs, Scout and Stella.
