ABOUT
Jennifer “Jen” Morgan is a Louisiana-based contemporary fiber artist whose richly textured portraiture and architectural works explore the people, culture, music & distinctive sense of place that define New Orleans and the American South.
Inspired by the cultural heritage of the region she has called home for more than 30 years, Morgan is drawn to subjects that carry a strong sense of identity and story—from musicians and Black Masking Indians to historic architecture and the individuals who help shape the character of a place. Through her work, she seeks not only to honor her subjects, but to capture something of their presence, spirit & humanity.
Morgan chooses fiber precisely because it is unexpected. In a visual landscape dominated by traditional painting, fiber asks the viewer to look again. What may initially appear to be a painted surface reveals itself on closer inspection as layers of wool, silk and other fibers, transformed through wet, Nuno & needle felting. Texture, dimensionality and occasional mixed-media embellishment further reward that closer look. No paint. All fiber.
Morgan holds a BFA in Graphic Design from East Carolina University and spent more than three decades as a graphic designer, art director & marketing professional before returning to a full-time fine art practice. Her background in visual communication continues to influence her approach to composition, color & storytelling.
Her work has been exhibited nationally & internationally, including Personal Structures – Confluences at the European Cultural Centre during the 2026 Venice Biennale. Her work has received recognition through juried exhibitions & awards and has been featured in Fiber Art Now and Inside New Orleans. Morgan is represented by Orleans Gallery in New Orleans, Louisiana.
