SOMEBODY PINCH ME! I Can't Believe My Art is Heading to the R. W. Norton Art Gallery!

I can hardly believe it, but I’m buzzing with excitement to share some life-changing news: my artwork, "BIG CHIEF", has officially been accepted into the juried art exhibition at the renowned R.W. Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport, LA! Honestly, I feel like I'm dreaming!
This exhibition, titled "New Orleans in Art: A Love Letter from the Crescent City," runs from August 28th through the end of November. Out of over 200 submitted pieces, mine was chosen! I am among 50 amazingly talented artists to be selected to participate. This is actually my first venture into a juried show. Even if I don't win any prizes, just being accepted is a huge honor for me. So, I’m asking for all your good vibes and wishes!
The Journey to Submission
Submitting to a juried art show always seemed like a distant dream. I poured my heart and soul into my "BIG CHIEF" piece. I used vibrant colors and textures, drawing inspiration from New Orleans’ rich culture. Through techniques like wet felting, nuno felting, and needle felting, I aimed to capture the vibrancy and spirit of the Crescent City.
Seeing my piece displayed in a gallery feels surreal. The R.W. Norton Art Gallery is respected for showcasing exceptional art—making it a perfect setting for my work. As I finalized my submission, the mix of excitement and nerves was intense. Would the judges appreciate it? Would they see the passion woven into the fibers?
The Opening Reception—An Art Lover's Dream
Mark your calendars! The grand opening reception is on Thursday, August 28th, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. This is when the winners will be announced! I can hardly wait; the anticipation has me counting down the days.
I’ve already started planning a mini-road trip to Shreveport for the event with my husband, Michael, my mom, Peggy, and mother in-law, Sally.. Who wants to join us? Stay through the weekend and explore Shreveport!
What to Expect at the Exhibition
This exhibition is more than just individual pieces of art. It’s a collective love letter to everything that makes New Orleans special. Each piece reflects a different aspect of the city—its history, music, vibrant streets, and unforgettable cuisine. For instance, there are works highlighting the city's jazz scene, featuring local musicians, while others depict iconic past times like eating crawfish and beignets. I am so honored to be part of this larger tapestry of creativity.
While I hope my "BIG CHIEF" stands out, I am excited to see the unique works created by talented artists who share my passion for New Orleans art. Whether it be traditional paintings, dynamic sculptures, or tactile fiber art, there is so much beauty to explore.

Participating in a juried art show has pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I can already tell it will significantly shape my artistic path moving forward.
Even if this is my first show and I don't place, the experience is invaluable. I’ve connected with my craft on a deeper level and discovered how my art brings joy not just to me, but potentially to others as well. Art has a magical way of creating community, and I can’t wait to be part of this enchanting event.
